When some of the bacteria has died as in the "Rabbit: Stage 2" drawing, the rabbit is still on the right, but the rooster on the left has turned into a wolf. On the lower left is the Japanese character for rabbit.

A mitochondrion is a compartment in your cells. You inherit half of your DNA from your main genome from your mother and half from your father. You inherit your entire mitochondrial DNA from your mother.  You have the exact mitochondrial DNA as your mother. On the upper right is the Japanese character for mother.
